I love how the disk kept the nail aimed upward so it does in smoothly.

Air leak must have been pretty slow if it went in that vertically.

I love how they always seem to get into the sidewall where the shops refuse to repair.......

Early start on your winter tires?

That looks more like a nail as opposed to
rats, if I’m honest.

No one will repair a sidewall puncture. The plies are only cord (fabric) and they don’t have the mechanical strength of the belt-supported tread. If any of the cord is torn by either the puncture or the repair, it can fail catastrophically.

You may be right. This is the expert automotive advice I come to Oppo for.

It’s mostly on the tread but near the edge. I’m hoping it’s not a loss.

No detectable air leak so far at all really. I just noticed it this morning. It might not even be through the tread for all I know. But I don’t want to pull it out in my driveway and find out yet.

You’re gonna make me cry.

That makes sense. Thanks for the explanation.
I had assumed that it was just that the plug going sideways through something would be in shear and wouldn’t stay sealed. But I like your reasoning a lot better.....

it very likely is toast. the belts don’t go all the way to the shoulder.

Well, that sucks. I had to deal with a nail a few weeks ago. The shop refused to repair it because of the tire rating.
Doesn’t look like much, does it?
The repair is holding just fine. I have no track days planned any time soon, so I’m not worried about a failed patch.

Well I’ll see what they say at least. Then I’ll do what has to be done.

I’m glad it worked for you. Mine has lots of good wear left. I hope I can save it.

No reputable shop is going to touch that. If it were on the inside of the outer treat block instead of the outside, then maybe, but your puncture is not in a good place. That sucks, but it doesn’t change the fact that not all tires are safely repairable, and better to shell out for a new tire than have it fail on you.

I hope it can be saved too.
